Writing Exercise: Winter
Hi everyone,
So I realize that with the holidays and getting back to work, New Year resolutions and the life happening, I haven't been on my blog in WEEKS!!!!
I apologise.
So, let's get into this: Winter. As usual, I'll start with what I wrote on the five minutes exercise, and then I'll reflect.
"The earth wears a white coat this morning, as I wake up and walk on silent feet across the room to the window. I look over the horizon at the sun getting up slowly; it looks like even the sun doesn't want to disturb the earth'sleep.
The trees to my left are covered in white, from the top branches, to the roots bent over the ground- ready to walk away, shaking the snow off their body.
when I breathe out, I notice a little puff of white flowing away. The heating must be off again. I shrug to myself. It will just have to be left well alone.
108 words.
So, in here, I'd need to look at my grammatical mistakes, and possibly change a couple of words. As a french native, this happens to me a lot. I need to think for a specific word sometimes, that will come up to my mind in french. Because of the time restriction with this exercise, I tend to right a word that I think is right, even if the spelling is wrong, just so that my thought doesn't go onto something else before I have had a chance to write it down. From time to time, I'll write the word I think of in french, if I am using my journal.
Next, I would probably do a bit more in means of description of the body as well as the landscape outside. At the moment, I try to incorporate as many sensory details as I can. It's a good habit to have, not all the time, just from time to time. It can be good. Try it. If you don't like it, don't do it. Simple :)
Let me know what you think; do the exercise yourself and see what you come up with. Remember, no judgment, we are who we are, and that's fine.
