Book Review: Stoner by John Williams
Hey everyone,
So I just finished this novel that was recommended by three different people from work that I know. Their views were so good that I went to the bookstore over the weekend and bought the book.
I was not very impressed with what I was reading at first: the feel of the story was slow compared to what I usually read (fantasy, romance, fiction) so I was ready to give up (several times throughout the book). A bit more than half way through, I started to get into the book. The character, an English lecturer in an American university, was a bit more living, and I thought 'This is it, now we'll see something'. Inside, I kept on hoping that something -anything- would happen. And when it did....!
I won't ruin the book by saying anymore; but as I have just read the last page, I am glad to be sitting down. The writing is magnificent in a way that caught me by surprise. The story itself left me feeling rather drained, ready to be filled with life once more. This is definitely a book that I would recommend; and if you have started on the first few pages, don't give up just yet. Continue reading. It will make you question your life and its meaning.
