"Write about a memorable moment" 14.11.18
Hi,
So this is a 5 minutes exercise I participated in. I thought about why I'd want to put it in my blog, and the only thing I can think of is that those exercises have been beneficial for me. For my writing and the way I process things. Funny enough, I learnt a new word at the last workshop, it feels quite well here I think: catharsis.
Look it up, and you'll see what benefits I'm talking about.
Here is what I wrote:
Me and my husband went to the hospital, early morning, with the big bag ready: enough clothes for me, new clothes for two newborns.
Next to me, my other half fidgets constantly. "It's gonna drive me mad!" I think to myself.
The nurse comes and tells us to get ready.
Morning passes. Afternoon comes when the doctors arrive: "Right, it's time!"
The insurance and good mood of the doctor and nurses is infectious.
My husband comes with me in the operation room. Seeing the needle, the anesthetist tells my husband to sit down.
"No need. I'm fine" he says.
To which she replies with purpose:
"-Please tell him to sit down...
-Darling, you're gonna pass out. Just sit down!
-Okay. Okay."
The room is nice and cool. I'm lying down, not feeling my feet up to my belly
(138 words)
Obviously, this is a first draft, and if I wanted to work back on it, I would probably get more details in. I like to involve the senses of touch and smell mostly. I could also add some description details about the building/rooms as well as the hospital staff -but in all honesty, I don't really remember that part. I might revise a few words that were easy to write in that 5 minutes, but that may not be the exact words that I was looking for.
And that's okay.
Now, I don't know about you, but I find it crucial to keep any type of writing I do. I can think:"This is so crap!" or "I'm so amazing!". Either way, I keep it. I used to write it in a creative notebook I carry with me all the time. But I'm finding it easier to use "Google docs" to record things now. Well. Easier may be the wrong word here. Practical would suit better.
