Writing exercise: "My day so far". (21.11.18)
Here is another 5 minutes exercise that I made on the 21st of November.
"I've woken up to my alarm blazing in the still darkness. I stand up and get dressed, still half asleep. Next, the kids need to be woken up...
Z. wakes up on his own, K. takes a good fifteen minutes to wake up, another ten to get ready.
Once we are ready we rush to school, then I, to work.
A quick breakfast in the staff room and it's a go!
Students come in, sit down and do their work in moderate silence. From time to time I have to repeat the same thing as everyday: "ID on" ,"No drink", "No food".
Today is good enough, there is no shouting. A few students need help.
I have a look at the bookmarks. I make a list in my head. There is so much to do and it's barely the middle of the day...
I think about my story as well. There is so much things I think about. Too much stuff sometimes."
162 words.
Looking back at this now, I realize that I may need to check a word or two, change a couple of words here and there. But all in all, I'm happy with the result. 5 minutes, it's not much, and the word count is good enough.
Now it's our turn. Write for five minutes on this subject, and see what you come up with. Good, bad, it doesn't matter. Post it in the comments; if you're shy, it's okay, contact me if you want to just show me. I'm no teacher, but you'll get an honest answer. Believe in yourself. And Write. It's as simple as that.
PS: As I have said before, and I can't stress this enough: keep your work. I mean, this may not be my best work, but I may go back to it later, or pick a thing or two that I can model to my book style and story. Details. Those are important. Quite often, I look at people on the bus and on the streets, and those are details that I may include as part of the description. And sometimes, those details are what I see for a character. So KEEP everything! type it on a document and save in on your "Ideas" file (and make sure you have a backup somewhere). The point is, it's better to have lots of different documents retelling what you saw, than to have nothing, and regret not taking notes at that time.
Have a great day.
